Sleep is as important as education, going to work, and all other elements of your life.

And a 'good sleep hygiene' will help you get that much-needed good night's rest. Here are Marylehome’s top 5 tips for you to get a good night’s sleep:

Top 5 Tips on How to Maintain a Good Sleep Hygiene

1.     Listen to your body clock

Typically, we all have a clock that controls our wake and sleep patterns. And in most cases, all body functions are synchronized to this process in a 24-hour physiological clock. As such, good sleep hygiene means working with your body clock and not against it.

2.     Relax your mind

More often than not, insomnia is caused by stress. For instance, if you are a chronic over-thinker and you tend to worry much before going to bed, try scheduling a 'worry time' that will take around half an hour before getting ready for bed. And once you retire, remind your mind that you've already done the worrying part; now it's time to sleep.

3.     Improve your sleeping environment

Having a good night's sleep doesn't come easily. You will have to put some work into it. You are more likely to experience good sleep when your bedroom feels restful and comfortable. Apart from ensuring the room is dark enough to sleep in and a comfy mattress, the other important part is investing in quality bed sheets. In essence, quality easy sheets are like the icing on the cake. They make the whole sleeping experience memorable.

4.     Turn off electrical devices

We are all victims of checking our phones scrolling through work or simply catching up with the latest chatter on our social media feeds. Unfortunately, electronic devices such as your phone emit blue light that reduces the level of melatonin in your body. So, for the sake of your own sleep, avoid checking your phone at least an hour before going to bed.

5.     Yoga

A little thirty-minute yoga session should suffice. It will help your sleep quality and also your overall health. If you can work out outside, even better.

And there you have it! Easy-Peasy, right? (Just like our easy zip on sheets). Sleep hygiene is all about having healthy sleeping habits.
